Description
coventry University, Post Application Decision Processing Process Diagram

No contextual or additional data is required. Everything is handled from the UCAS record, wherever possible.

Business rules are pre-set as much as possible in the software:

  • those from applicants with criminal convictions go into a separate pot; disabled students' applications are copied and handled separately from selection in respect of their disability (so fairness is covered).
  • Processes are the same for all (except in exceptional mitigating circumstances). The university makes no discounted offers and has no compacts with schools.
  • There is a Phoenix partnership scheme (with SLAs) with local schools, but this involves only advice and guidance, not preferential offers or treatment.
  • 2 staff carry out selection; one to Recommend, one to Approve. This is enforced by the CARE admissions system (applications software).

Administration, management and selection are done electronically; no paper forms are held.

There are business rules for alternative offers that are based on qualifications; unless selection includes interviews.
