| Description | This narrative is from Coventry University, which uses a paperless admissions system introduced in 2005-6 for UCAS-based full-time undergraduate UK applications. The admissions service is based on a customer relationship management system. UCAS-based admissions is centralised through the Recruitment and Admissions Office (RAO). Different amounts of work are centralised dependent on faculty (they can use the CARE admissions system themselves, but are encouraged to give responsibility to the RAO). RAO has faculty link officers who can attend faculty meetings. Each year the RAO has meetings with Deans or Associate Deans to decide on offer level;; plus equivalencies; RAO sets equivalences at the centre. Each Faculty holds its own targets, so formal responsibility lies with the faculty. The university sets standard offers course by course. If students have already completed A levels, an unconditional offer is made at a lower level (pre-determined) than for a conditional offer. Faculties cannot lower the offer if they underrecruit. They can interview all applicants or none and must use criteria-based interviews if they do. |
