Information Management

What is information management?

Information Management spans any way we might create, transfer or digest information in any format, digital or otherwise. It looks at ensuring that the right people, have the right information, at the right time. This may sound straightforward, but in large organisations management of information and how it flows between departments can become increasingly complex and risks vital information being lost in the process or delayed to the point of uselessness. Legacy systems and a sense of "we've always done it this way" can create hugely inefficient systems, wasting time and money, while the new political drivers can create demands on a system unprepared for them.

Our expertise

We specialise particularly in courses information management from course creation, approval and advertising, to eventual winding up, but have also worked with information about applicants and students themselves. We bridge the gaps between data creators, data systems and data users, looking at what information is actually necessary and how it is stored and communicated to ensure high quality throughout.

On larger projects we bring in our expertise in process re-design and requirements engineering, working with stakeholders across the organisation to ensure that no one is left out of the loop.

We've worked on major projects with:

  • Birkbeck, University of London
  • Bishop Burton College
  • University of Bradford
  • Cetis
  • Greater Manchester Strategic Alliance
  • Hotcourses
  • University of Huddersfield
  • Jisc
  • Manchester Metropolitan University
